Digital Photo Retouching with Photoshop

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides beginning through intermediate concepts in digital photograph retouching techniques, including correcting color, tone, saturation, sharpness, and distorted or damaged areas of a photograph with various Photoshop techniques. Students will also learn how to apply common photographic special effects and prepare color images for output.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Evaluate a photograph based on its relative color cast, tonal distribution, saturation, and apply software techniques to correct imbalances. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  2. Apply software techniques to repair damaged, distorted, or undesirable areas of a photograph and to apply special photographic effects. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  3. Acquire digital photographs through a variety of input devices and prepare images for print or Web output. This will be assessed and scored with a quiz.

  4. Explain Copyright and Fair Use as the law applies to digital photographs. This will be assessed with a paper, scored by a rubric.
