Media Production Art with Photoshop

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course examines the principles of character and environment design, with an emphasis on using digital tools to produce concept art and preproduction materials for animation, games, and multimedia.  The student will explore the processes of character development and design, environment design and layout, and storyboarding.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Develop a working method for generating concept art for use in a variety of media. This will be assessed with a discussion post, scored with a rubric.

  2. Visualize, sketch and paint character concept art using a digital painting program. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric.

  3. Visualize, sketch and paint environment concept art using a digital painting program. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric.

  4. Draw a storyboard that depicts the plot and planned art style of a media project. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric.
