Interactivity and Interface Design with Flash

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides students with an in-depth analysis of multimedia interactivity, including the psychology of user interaction and methods for designing and developing effective navigational interfaces. Students will also learn the fundamentals of Web animation and interactivity with Adobe Flash. No prior knowledge of the software is required.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Organize content into logical chunks and establish appropriate navigational relationships between them. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  2. Design interfaces that create an accurate conceptual model of the system and that minimize the gulfs of evaluation and execution through affordances, constraints, feedback, mappings, error recovery, and labels. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  3. Design interfaces according to semiotic principles, and visually organized according to gestalt principles. This will be assessed by a project, scored by a rubric.

  4. Use Flash to create animated and interactive content. This will be assessed by a project, scored by a rubric.
