Principles of Animation with 3DS Max

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This hands-on course introduces the student to the fundamentals of 3D animation. The student will study the principles of animation, and explore 3D modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering, as well as basic 3D animation techniques.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Evaluate selected animations, addressing artistic technique and effective use of animation principles. This will be assessed with a discussion post, scored with a rubric.

  2. Demonstrate basic skills in 3D scene construction, including modeling, texturing and lighting. This will be assessed with an exercise, scored with a rubric.

  3. Demonstrate basic skills in 3D animation, including keyframing and rigging. This will be assessed with an exercise, scored with a rubric.

  4. Produce discrete animations that demonstrate a synthesis of visualizing, planning, modeling, texturing, lighting and performing basic animation. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric.
