Digital Video Production

DMA C131

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces digital video production techniques including: single camera operation and procedures, basic principles and techniques of sound and scriptwriting, and digital video editing. Course topics include the operation of digital camcorders, lighting and sound equipment, post-production digital editing suites, concepts and techniques of nonlinear digital editing, including organization of the editing process, working the timeline and audio editing, with emphasis on the principles and aesthetics of video editing.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Describe a general outline of the moviemaking process, including genres, formats, production processes, data storage, and compression. This will be assessed with an essay, scored by a rubric.

  2. Describe the principles and aesthetics involved in video editing. This will be assessed with an essay, scored by a rubric

  3. Perform single camera operation using a digital camcorder. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  4. Perform basic lighting and sound recording. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.

  5. Perform basic digital video and audio editing using a nonlinear editing program. This will be assessed with a project, scored by a rubric.
