Motion Graphics with After Effects

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this project based course, students will learn to produce visual effects, composite images and movies, and create original animated presentations. Topics include combining video, still images, graphics, text and sound into video productions. A special emphasis is placed upon the fundamental motion graphics skills necessary to produce video content for broadcast, web and multimedia.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Identify how motion graphics software can be used within a media production process. This will be assessed with a written production plan, scored with a rubric.

  2. Identify, select and acquire source footage appropriate to a specific media project. This will be assessed with a project, scored with a rubric.

  3. Create After Effects projects and compositions, import footage, adjust layer properties, apply effects, create text layers, and animate composition elements using keyframes and expressions. This will be assessed with a final project, scored with a rubric.

  4. Integrate video, audio, animation and/or still images into effective motion graphic presentations. This will be assessed with a final project, scored with a rubric.
