Media for Mobile Devices

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical experience developing video and audio media for mobile devices, such as cell phones, video iPods, PDAs, and mobile game consoles. Students will also learn about relevant media formats, compression algorithms, distribution methods, and broadcast protocols.

LEARNING OUTCOMES & ASSESSMENTS

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Describe current trends in user activity, technological developments, mCommerce, and mLearning that are driving mobile media. This will be assessed with a paper, scored by a rubric.

  2. Summarize the basic mobile network architecture, and identify mobile phone and data standards. This will be assessed with a paper, scored by a rubric.

  3. Develop a media production plan, and produce media that is appropriate and functional on the target device. This will be assessed by a project, scored by a rubric.
