A+ Essential Skills for Computer Repair
CATALOG COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
This course emphasizes a fundamental technical understanding of personal
computer hardware, setup, maintenance, and installation in a personal
workgroup environment. This course prepares a student for the CompTIA A+
essentials exam for entry level IT Technicians and serves as a building
block for further certification oriented technical training.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be
able to:
- Prove knowledge of personal computer setup and hardware in a
computer workgroup environment with 80% correctness. This will be
measured by an exam.
- Demonstrate an ability to identify target information and
perform requested actions in a skill demonstration scenario. This
will be evaluated through lab reports and scored with a rubric.
- Discuss challenging technical concepts among a group of peers to
arrive at a documented long-answer conclusion. Students will be
partially evaluated by peer review using a peer review rubric.
Groups will also be evaluated by faculty critique of long-answer
correctness.
- Articulate professional goal progress as would be expected by an
employment administrator. This will be observed through a progress
interview scored by faculty using a Likert scale.
- Demonstrate preparedness for the Comp Tia A+ Essentials IT
certification exam. This will be measured by an exam.
