A+ Essential Skills for Computer Repair

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course emphasizes a fundamental technical understanding of personal computer hardware, setup, maintenance, and installation in a personal workgroup environment.  This course prepares a student for the CompTIA A+ essentials exam for entry level IT Technicians and serves as a building block for further certification oriented technical training.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Prove knowledge of personal computer setup and hardware in a computer workgroup environment with 80% correctness.  This will be measured by an exam.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to identify target information and perform requested actions in a skill demonstration scenario.  This will be evaluated through lab reports and scored with a rubric.
  3. Discuss challenging technical concepts among a group of peers to arrive at a documented long-answer conclusion.  Students will be partially evaluated by peer review using a peer review rubric.  Groups will also be evaluated by faculty critique of long-answer correctness.
  4. Articulate professional goal progress as would be expected by an employment administrator.  This will be observed through a progress interview scored by faculty using a Likert scale.
  5. Demonstrate preparedness for the Comp Tia A+ Essentials IT certification exam.  This will be measured by an exam.
