ENGL C221 World Literature I

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides a chronological survey of the literature of the world from the Biblical period through the Renaissance.  

REQUISITES

Advisory: Level 1 Reading and Level 1 Writing.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. understand the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery
  2. apply the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery to a specific literary work
  3. describe major writers, works, and genres, such as epic and tragedy, as well as movements, such as pre-classical and medieval
  4. explain the relation between historical context and literary elements
