ENGL C221 World Literature I
CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides a chronological survey of the
literature of the world from the Biblical period through the
Renaissance.
REQUISITES
Advisory: Level 1 Reading and Level 1 Writing.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the course, the student
will be able to
- understand the literary elements of plot, structure,
character, theme, and imagery
- apply the literary elements of plot, structure,
character, theme, and imagery to a specific literary work
- describe major writers, works, and genres, such as epic
and tragedy, as well as movements, such as pre-classical and
medieval
- explain the relation between historical context and
literary elements
