ENGL C222 World Literature II

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides a chronological survey of the literature of Europe from the seventeenth century through the twentieth century.

REQUISITES

Advisory: Level 1 Reading and Level 1 Writing

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. understand the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery.
  2. apply the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery to a specific literary work.
  3. describe major writers, works, and genres, such as tragedy and satire, as well as movements, such as romanticism and realism.
  4. explain the relation between historical context and literary elements.
