CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course studies the literary achievements of women writers.

REQUISITES

Advisory: Level 1 Reading and Level 1 Writing

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1.  understand the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery.
  2. apply the literary elements of plot, structure, character, theme, and imagery to a specific literary work.
  3. explain the extent to which literature mirrors or shapes historical and social attitudes with particular emphasis on the roles, images, and concerns of women as expressed in literature.
  4. analyze gender as it relates to literature.
  5. describe the major themes, forms, and trends in women's literature.
