Work Based Learning: DMA Project

Graduation Slideshow

Digital Media Arts was asked to produce a slideshow for the 28th Annual Commencement ceremony for Cerro Coso College. The task was to reflect on the past year at Cerro Coso and illustrate with photographs the years outstanding events and student life and learning. With the assistance of scanned photographs and armed with a digital camera the WBLC was able to capture many images that illustrated the past year. The project was compiled in PowerPoint and projected on a large 8 foot by 6 foot screen.

We started with over 300 images to choose from and narrowed it down to 180 for the first cut. Timing was an issue as we didn't want the pictures to go too quickly for those viewing them. We determined that 4 seconds per slide was adequate timing and that based on the music we had chosen, we had to cut down the number of images to closer to 120. More editing decisions were made and the presentation was then previewed by the administration. After a few last minute editing changes, the slideshow was ready, and then premiered during the graduation ceremony.
