Work Based Learning: DMA ProjectWireless LabAbout the Wireless LabThe idea for the wireless lab was originally conceived of by Dr. Roe Darnell, former President of Cerro Coso. The concept was to create a mobile lab that would enable Cerro Coso to offer courses in the outlying regions of our service area, or to communities that would otherwise not have access to the technology. The lab was to be small enough to fit in the trunk of a car to be easily transported to the distant locations. The goal in designing the lab was for it to be inexpensive, easily transported, durable, and easy to use. The result was a portable lab, made up of 16 laptops, for under $35,000 that can be easily duplicated by other organizations. This lab can be used for multiple disciplines as the powerful laptops have the capacity to deliver a wide range of software and technology, from business software to high end graphics software.
Disciplines such as Administration of Justice and English can also utilize
this lab. The wireless lab has proven to be a very powerful and effective
tool in offer education to otherwise disadvantaged communities. Our Child
Development Center has also made the investment in wireless technology and
built their own wireless lab as part of the Child Development Distant
Learning project. A Day in the Life of the Wireless Lab
The TechnologyThe wireless lab is made up 16 laptops and a variety of peripherals. Here are the general specs for our wireless lab:
